According to an agreement signed between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and GTZ on July 21 in Hanoi, the organisation will help Vietnam implement a legal framework to connect wind power to the national electric grid and a comprehensive plan as well as scientific consultancy for wind power projects across the country.
According to Guether Riethmacher, Head representative of GTZ in Vietnam, the potential to develop wind power in rural areas is very promising, but this kind of power has not yet been fully explored.
He believed German experience in this field will help Vietnam accelerate acquisition of wind power in the near future.
Do Huu Hao, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, praised the support of the German government, saying Vietnam is fully aware of the importance of alternative power and has supportive policies for these projects.
The ministry has submitted a general plan for alternative power development between now and 2020. Under this plan, the alternative power will comprise about 5 percent of the total national electric power.
A general survey has shown that, 8.6 percent of the country’s land has a strong potential to develop wind power with a total capacity of 1,780MW.
