An international torch and flag relay advocating the use of environmentally friendly fuels has arrived in Vietnam.
The Green Highways project, launched by the Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicles Association (ANGVA), aims to encourage the community to use natural gas instead of energy sources producing waste harmful to the environment and people’s health.
Starting from the central province of Ha Tinh, the relay will travel through urban centres to Hanoi, and end its journey at Vietnam’s Huu Nghi (Friendship) border gate, in the northern province of Lang Son on September 21.
The green highway 2009 torch and flag relay consists of two convoys of vehicles. One started from Teheran, running across Iran into Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and China, where it will meet up with the other convoy, its journey started from Surabaya, Indonesia, through Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. From China they will be heading towards Donghae, in the Republic of Korea, where the ANGVA 2009 conference is taking place on October 27-20.
