Local authorities briefed the government working group on bird flu control efforts in the province. In 2006, the province implemented two vaccination campaigns for more than 1,542,000 poultry including 650,380 ducks and provided 40,300 litres of disinfectant for all breeding farms and high-risk areas. So far, the province’s waterfowl and other kinds of poultry have not yet been infected with the H5N1 virus.
The province asked the government to provide it with sufficient doses of vaccines against bird flu in 2007.
Minister Ngoc said strict measures must be taken to control the transportation of poultry from Khanh Hoa to other localities. Veterinary forces were asked to inspect the trading and killing of poultry at breeding farms and slaughterhouses. Besides, it is necessary to conduct regular disinfection to protect consumers’ health when the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) is drawing near.
