Golden turtle listed in IUCN Red List found in Ha Tinh

VOV.VN - The Huong Khe District Forest Protection Unit in central Ha Tinh province in coordination with Vu Quang National Park received a rare golden turtle handed over by a local resident on June 24.

Earlier, on the morning of June 22, Vo Thi Hong Trang, a resident of Huong Khe town, discovered a golden-coloured turtle weighing nearly 0.2 kilograms crawling into her front yard as she opened her gate.

After learning that it was a rare species listed in the IUCN Red List 2012 and in urgent need of protection, Trang contacted local authorities to hand it over.

Experts identified the turtle as an impressed tortoise (Cuora mouhotii), a highly rare terrestrial species belonging to the family Emydidae and order Testudinata. The species is primarily found in China, India, Laos, and Vietnam.
