GIZ helps improve Vietnam’s social welfare system
(VOV) - The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ)-funded project has laid the foundation for a comprehensive social welfare system in Vietnam.
The statement was made by Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Nguyen Trong Dam at a seminar in Hanoi on January 9 to review the implementation of the GIZ-funded social welfare project.
Participants reviewed the project results and shared experience obtained in the implementation process.
The external consultants presented an evaluation report, saying that the project also helped improve MoLISA’s capacity in making social welfare policies.
Ha Giang is a locality chosen to pilot the innovations in management and service delivery by paying social benefits through a post office. As a result, the poor families have received benefits in a timely and accessible manner.
The model is being replicated in the framework of the Vietnam Social Assistance System Strengthening Project (SASSP) funded by the World Bank and The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The social welfare project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has been implemented by GIZ from March 2012 to February 2015.
Beneficiaries are State employees and vulnerable groups like the poor, the elderly and people with disabilities.
