Germany will provide over 3 million euros for Vietnam to implement a project to improve healthcare and reproductive healthcare services in Son La and Cao Bang provinces, Vietnam's two poorest northern provinces.

Entrusted by the German government, the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has coordinated with the Vietnam Committee of Population and Family Planning to carry out the three-year project, starting from July 2006.

The project will create conditions for dwellers in the two provinces to gain more access to healthcare services at communal infirmaries. It will also help design suitable financial models such as medical-social insurance system, improve and ensure the quality of health centres' healthcare services for people suffering from sexually-transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS. The project will give priority to teenagers and youth.

The project has put forth initiatives to support the Hanoi School of Public Health in organising MA training courses for hospital managers.
