A Berlin newspaper on August 18 ran an article entitled “harmful heritages” on Vietnamese Agent Orange victims by journalist Carsten Stormer.

Readers were moved by what the writer witnessed during a visit to Vietnam. The story was about the unfortunate lives of two war veterans Pham Van San in the northern province of Bac Giang and Nguyen Thanh Son in Hanoi as well as disabled children in Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and in Hoa Binh Village in Hanoi.

The writer said that although the war ended 34 years ago but its left-over heritage is horrendous with 3 million AO victims. Dioxin contaminated land, causing gene mutations in humans which turn into cancer and deformities that will affect many Vietnamese generations to come.

The newspaper not only condemned the savage crimes carried out by the American imperialists but also expressed sympathy with the unfortunate victims and praised their strong belief in life. For instance, Nguyen Thanh Tung is blind but has graduated from two music schools in Hanoi. He is always optimistic about his future, saying that “my life is wonderful.”

Together with activities to support AO victims in Germany, the newspaper called upon more people to support the struggle for justice for Vietnamese AO victims.
