German foundation donates EUR1 million in medical equipment to Da Nang Hospital

VOV.VN - Da Nang Hospital has received a fourth digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system and two ultrasound machines worth EUR1 million from Germany’s Heart For Heart Foundation for Life, marking 20 years of cooperation between the two sides.

The equipment was handed over on October 20 to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions, particularly congenital heart disease in children across the central and Central Highlands regions.

Over the past two decades, the partnership has provided free congenital heart disease screenings for more than 500,000 children in the regions. Nearly 3,700 children were diagnosed with the condition, and almost 2,000 subsequently received treatment or medical interventions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, thanked the foundation, international experts and donors for their continued support, which has expanded treatment opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She expressed hope that the partnership would continue to grow and benefit more patients and families.

Da Nang Hospital Director Le Duc Nhan credited the foundation’s founder, Honorary Professor Erich Lejeune, Honorary Doctor Irène Lejeune and international medical experts with helping the hospital develop its cardiovascular intervention capabilities. He pledged to make effective use of the donated equipment and continue improving treatment quality.

For his part, Erich Lejeune reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to long-term cooperation with Da Nang’s healthcare sector, highlighting the importance of directing resources towards saving children with congenital heart disease.

The foundation previously donated three DSA systems and other medical equipment to the hospital, including a Philips Azurion 7 B20 system in 2023. The partnership has also supported medical training, technical exchanges and technology transfer, helping strengthen the expertise of the hospital’s medical staff.

The latest donation is expected to further strengthen the hospital's cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment services, while expanding access to specialised healthcare for patients across the central and Central Highlands regions.
