Vietnam has made great efforts in meeting environmental challenges, said a representative from the Global Environment Facility (GEF)’s Secretariat, Funke Oyewole at a seminar entitled “GEF National Dialogue” held in Hanoi on October 5.

The seminar aimed to help member countries further understand strategies, policies and procedures of GEF, exchange experiences in managing GEF-funded projects and better include GEF’s activities in their national plans and policies.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister of Natural Resource and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen emphasised GEF’s important role in implementing programmes on environmental protection in Vietnam. With GEF assistance, Vietnam has successfully implemented many programmes and projects on environmental protection.

Ms Oyewole highlighted Vietnam’s efforts in meeting environmental challenges as well as managing the world environment.

Since 1993, GEF has funded 32 projects in Vietnam with a total of more than US$130 million.
