Fundraising campaign launched in France to build memorial plaque for AO victims
VOV.VN - Several organisations and associations in France have launched a fundraising campaign to build a memorial plaque for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin at Choisy Park in Paris’s 13th arrondissement.
The memorial plaque would be the first of its kind in France and Europe dedicated to the millions of victims who continue to suffer from the effects of the chemical.
The campaign was initiated by the committee in support of Tran To Nga, a Vietnamese Agent Orange victim and activist, with the goal of raising 10,489 euros to complete the memorial.
The initiative aims to honour victims of Agent Orange and inform the international public about the long-term impact of the chemical on people and the environment. The memorial is expected to be inaugurated in the spring of this year.
The project began in 2022 on the initiative of Alexandre Florentin, a member of the Paris City Council, following coordination with authorities in 13th arrondissement and several social organisations.
As part of the project, a dove tree (Davidia involucrata) native to Asia was planted at Choisy Park in December 2025 as a symbol of remembrance. A glass memorial plaque will be installed beside the tree, featuring an illustration created by artist Kim Doan Quoc, a member of the Collectif Vietnam-Dioxine.
The design evokes the image of mangrove forests, symbolising resilience in harsh natural conditions while recalling areas severely contaminated and damaged by Agent Orange.
The project has drawn participation from numerous French and Vietnamese organisations and associations.
