A fund-raising run on Phu My Bridge on the morning of September 6, just four days after its inauguration, attracted about 500 people, including expatriates.

The 5km Phu My Bridge Fund Run, supported by the German and Australian Consulates General and sponsored by the ANZ bank, provided participants with an opportunity to walk freely across the bridge before it was officially open to traffic three days later.

Participants were entertained before the start by the band Bad Neighbours. Various prizes including a Vespa LX150 motorbike, went to winners and participants wearing the best fancy outfit.

Vu Thai Binh, a 26-year-old staff member of Bao Minh Insurance corporation, said he was running and enjoying the view with about 100 of his colleagues.

“The bridge is really splendid and beautiful, I believe it’s a highlight of the city’s architecture.” He added.

All proceeds, roughly estimated at 400 million VND (22,000 USD) went to the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Loreto Vietnam to help disadvantaged people.
