The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh province, on February 12 organised a blood donation among its staff and doctors.
The unscheduled blood donation for charity collected nearly 100 units of clean blood to help meet the demand during the Tet holiday.
According to the hospital’s director, Dr. Duong Thanh Binh, during the average Lunar New Year Festival, the hospital needs 40-50 units of blood to save patients, many of whom lose blood due to traffic accidents.
In 2007, the hospital founded a blood bank that now has over 100 regular donors. Every year hospital staff and doctors hold a blood drive and collect over 500 units of blood, about 20 percent of what they use in a typical year.
