A French funded centre in support of children was put into operation in Long Dien district of the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on October 23 after almost a year of construction.

The project, designed with 20 classrooms, was built on an area of over 5,000 sq. m. at a total cost of VND10 billion financed by the Association for Children of France’s Plain, APER.

The freshly-finished first phase saw the building of eight classrooms for computer classes, vocational training, English teaching and play activities, to take care of 120 disadvantaged children during the day time.

The second phase is expected to finish next year providing eight boarding rooms for the children.
Once the third and final phase is completed, the centre will accommodate 150 kids in difficult circumstances, including abandoned, orphaned, and HIV positive as well as those affected by Agent Orange or disabled.

On the inauguration of the centre’s first phase, the French charity association granted VND150 million to 10 families in difficult circumstances, and 200 scholarships each worth VND500,000 for local poor, gifted children.
