French artist makes portrait of Ho Chi Minh with paper pieces

An Algerian-French artist has presented the Vietnamese Embassy in France with a portrait of late President Ho Chi Minh made of small pieces of paper.

The picture, measuring 1m and 0.8m, was created by Mustapha Boutadjine, who connected pieces of coloured magazine paper to form the portrait.

At the presentation on October 11, Boutadjine expressed his admiration for the late President of Vietnam, noting that the portrait is part of his works about leaders of the world’s revolutionary movements.

Being of Algerian origin, a country that like Vietnam fought against French colonialists in the 1950s, he loves and feels close to the Vietnamese people, he added.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Ngoc Son rejoiced at receiving the portrait, which he said is a demonstration of the Algerian and French people’s sentiment towards Ho Chi Minh.

He said last February, the family of French Professor Pierre Biquard presented him with a woolen cap that Biquard received as a gift from President Ho Chi Minh when he led a delegation of France’s peace movement to Vietnam in January 1969.

The woolen cap and other photos also presented by the Biquard family were later sent to the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Vietnam.
