Floods strike Quang Tri and Hue amid heavy rains
VOV.VN - Heavy downpours have triggered rapid flooding in central Vietnam’s Quang Tri province and Hue city on September 13, forcing local authorities to evacuate 700 residents while inundating low-lying residential areas and transport routes.
Rising waters from the Se Pon River spilled into residential neighborhoods in Lao Bao village, Quang Tri province, on the early morning of September 13. Local authorities mobilized border guards, police, and militia overnight to deploy motorboats, trucks, and life vests.
By afternoon, 160 households totaling roughly 700 people from Trieu Phuoc, Tan Phuoc, Vinh Dong, and Tan Long villages were moved to safety, with Trieu Phuoc hardest hit.
The Provincial Civil Defense Steering Committee reported rainfall totals of 50 to 150 mm between September 12 and 13, disrupting traffic on several local routes. Meteorologists forecast an additional 90 to 200 mm of rain through September 14, with localized totals exceeding 300 mm, warning that river levels are likely to reach alarm 1 or 2.
In Hue, heavy rains submerged streets and low-water bridges across the city. In Hung Loc commune, floodwaters rose on the early morning of September 12, inundating roads by 20 to 30 cm across several villages. Local officials erected barriers and warning ropes to restrict civilian movement.
Observation data recorded rainfall ranging from 100 to 300 mm citywide between September 12 and 13, with extreme peaks reaching 476 mm in A Dot, 513 mm in Nham, and over 680 mm at Bach Ma peak.
