Flooding in central Vietnam leaves four dead, one injured

VOV.VN - A prolonged spell of heavy rain during the past two days has caused severe flooding and landslides in central Vietnam, resulting in four deaths and one injury.

Three of the four deaths were swept away by violent floodwaters in Khanh Hoa province, according to local authorities.

Spells of torrential rain left many streets in the province submerged in water measuring between 0.5 and 0.8m deep, with some parts even 1m deep. The provincial administration therefore permitted students to remain home from school.

In addition, five trains halted operation due to a landslide hitting national road 26 which connects Khanh Hoa to Dak Lak provinces.

Similar flooding also hit some locations in Quang Nam province, forcing local residents to move their belongings to higher places.

Meanwhile, Quang Ngai province witnessed water levels in local rivers increase quickly, isolating low lying areas in Binh Son and Nghia Hanh districts.

Hundreds of landslide points in mountainous districts were reported, leading to severe traffic jams and threatening the safety of local residents.

The Quang Ngai provincial administration scrambled to evacuate local people from areas at risk to safety.

Elsewhere, heavy rain over recent days submerged many low-lying areas in Binh Dinh province, with roughly 4,600 nursing school kids and primary school pupils being forced to stay at home for safety.
