Flooded central and northern regions suffer great losses

VOV.VN - Floods triggered by heavy rains have left 28 dead and missing in Yen Bai, Son La and Thanh Hoa provinces, according to local officials.

The northern Yen Bai Province has reported 12 people dead and missing as of October 11. The losses are due to heavy flooding caused by a tropical depression which has affected the area over the past two days.

More than 230 local houses in Van Chan and Tram Tau districts and Nghia Lo town have also been damaged by the deluge. Many parts of roads in Nghia Lo and Van Chan were impassable because of floods and landslides.

On October 11, some local people fell into floodwaters when Thia Bridge in Nghia Lo town collapsed.

Do Duc Duy, chairman of Yen Bai provincial People’s Committee and other local authorities came to Nghia Lo town and Van Chan district to direct the search of missing victims and provide support with the clean-up operations.

In northern Son La Province, floods have left five people dead and three missing. Five villages in the province were cut off by the rising floodwaters.

Meanwhile Thanh Hoa province has reported eight people dead and missing. The province continues to suffer torrential rains on a large scale and water levels on rivers are rising rapidly. Many mountainous villages have been left completely isolated.
