Flood death toll rises to 61 in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - Heavy rain and floods in central Vietnam over the past few days have left at least 61 dead and four missing, while water levels in the region’s major rivers are swelling up again.
Thua Thien-Hue was the hardest hit province as natural disasters have claimed 22 lives, according to the latest report by the National Steering Committee on Natural Disasters Prevention and Control.
It was followed by Quang Tri (17), Quang Nam (11), Da Nang (3), Quang Binh and Kon Tum (2 each), Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Lam Dong (1 each). Four others were reported missing,
The National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported that heavy rain is triggering water levels in rivers from Nghe An to Quang Ngai to rise again that could submerge parts of these localities.
Weather experts warned about possible flash floods and landslides in coastal, low-lying and mountainous areas of provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam. Heavy rain will also threaten dams and reservoirs of hydropower plants and irrigation systems in the region.
