Five-month traffic accidents down 15.7% as incidents claim over 2,343 lives

VOV.VN - As many as 3,991 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, claiming the lives of 2,343 people and injuring 2,773 others during the first five months of the year.

According to figures released by the Ministry of Public Security, the reviewed period saw the number of cases decline by 15.7%.

Most notably, between April 15 and May 14 a total of 832 accidents occurred, resulting in 448 deaths with 619 people being left injured.

Furthermore, May alone witnessed the number of traffic accidents increase by 2.34% compared to the previous month, whilst the number of injuries in May went up by 7.47% against figures from April.

However, the number of deaths in May saw a decline of 2.4% in comparison to those from April. In May police handled a total of 291,792 traffic violations, a fall of 8.4%, with total fines of VND590.49 billion, a reduction of 6.53% against April.

As many as 101,887 vehicles were seized during this period, a decrease of 2.26% compared to the previous month.

The Ministry of Public Security also stated that there were more than 191 fire incidents nationwide, killing over 12 and injuring nine others between April 15 and May 14. Fire incidents caused financial losses of VND17.62 billion, down by 34.46% against April.
