Blood samples taken from dead chickens of a farm in Thuan An commune, Binh Minh district, tested positive for the bird flu virus, type H5N1, according to the provincial Veterinary Agency.

Local authorities of Phong Thanh Dong commune, Gia Rai district, Bac Lieu province on January 10 culled 113 ducklings after they showed signs of bird flu infection. New outbreaks were also detected in Vinh Loc and Long Dien Dong A communes in the province.
In Ca Mau province, poultry have continued to get sick and die over the past two days. Serum samples from dead birds tested positive for the bird flu virus, type H5. By January 11, the bird flu virus, type H5, had spread to 26 towns and communes in the province of which Cai Nuoc town and Tan An commune were the latest hit.
In Kien Giang province, bird flu outbreaks were found in flocks of 1,700 ducklings in Bau Tram and Hai Bien A villages. 220 of them died. Local veterinarians took serum samples from the dead birds for testing.
The Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve in Tien Giang province has decided to temporarily close its doors to visitors for chemical disinfection. The reserve is home to approximately 10,000 birds and storks.
In Dong Thap province, the water in canals crisscrossing Tan Hong and Hong Ngu districts is being seriously polluted by waste from hundreds of free-range ducks. The province is facing a high risk of bird flu infection after 33 serum samples taken from flocks of free-range ducks tested positive for the deadly virus type H5N1.
Meanwhile, 48 chickens were found dead recently in a local farm in Phu Da commune, Phu Van district, central Thua Thien-Hue province. The provincial veterinary agency took blood samples and has been waiting for testing results. The Phu Vang district People’s Committee has asked veterinarians and medical workers to complete the vaccination on the remaining 13,500 birds in Phu Da commune.
