First 20 Vietnamese guest workers returned to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on August 4 safely after a long trip from the war-ravaged Lebanon.

Vietnam Airlines aircraft VN830 carrying the evacuees touched down the airport’s runway at 14.15 amidst tears and joy from crowds, who were waiting for their relatives.

Chu Thi Mi who lives in Cam Xa commune, My Hao district of northern Hung Yen province took a bus to the airport very early in the hope of meeting her daughter Khuc Thi Nhan – one of the first 20 returnees.

“I was overjoyed to see my daughter back. I would like to express my gratitude towards the Party and State which have helped bring my daughter back safely,” said the 78-year-old woman.

Eight-year-old Pham Thi Xuan was also filled with joy when meeting her mother Le Thi Yen again, who has been working in Lebanon for six years. Yen left for Lebanon when Xuan was 18 months old and four years later her father died.

All returnees and their relatives could not hold back their tears after long-awaited days. They all expressed special thanks to the Government and relevant agencies for their all-out efforts to bring Vietnamese guest workers back safely.

“We have received timely assistance and care from relevant agencies during our trip,” said Nguyen Thi Van, who is among the returnees. “We are all healthy and so moved to be back safely.”

The returnees are among the first 60 Vietnamese evacuees who have been eligible for returning home from Lebanon. The remaining 40 workers are expected to fly to Vietnam on August 5.
