President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFF CC) Pham The Duyet has sent a congratulatory message to ethnic Khmer people to mark their traditional New Year Festival, Chol Chnam Thmay, which falls on April 14-15.

In his message, Mr Duyet called the Khmer an inseparable part of national unity. He said during the Doi MOi (Renewal) process, the Vietnamese people’s living conditions have been greatly improved while the nation’s independence, sovereignty and integrity has been maintained and its position in the international arena enhanced.

These achievements were in no small measure aided by all Vietnamese people inside and outside of the country, including the Khmer, the VFF leader explained.

He expressed his hope that ethnic Khmer people will continue to promote solidarity within the country and actively take part in hunger and poverty eradication for the goal of “a rich people, a strong country and an equitable, democratic and civilised society”.
