Exhibition chronicles sovereignty over East Sea islands

VOV.VN - A five-day exhibition chronicling Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos has opened on August 23 at An Giang University, featuring hundreds of provocative exhibits.

Among the most convincing evidence at the exhibition are roughly 100 original maps and other documents written in Chinese, Vietnamese and French languages dating as far back as the 17th and early 20th centuries.

These items collaborate the legitimacy of Vietnam’s claim of sovereignty over these islands, directly refute false claims made by the Chinese government and, in actuality, show that China has no territorial claims whatsoever to these islands.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Phan Tam underscored the importance of the exhibition, stating that it demonstrates unequivocally to the international community that from ancient times forward, Vietnam has always exercised sovereignty over the islands.

Further, he asserted, that sovereignty is well recognized and in full compliance with international law.
