The Vietnam Electricity Telecom Company (EVN Telecom) on November 6 launched the trans-Asia submarine cable system (IACS), making it the country’s second telecom company after VNPT to operate a modern this type of optical cable network.
The IACS has an initial investment capital of US$200 million, to which EVN Telecom is contributing US$30 million and the remainder comes from India’s TATA Communication.

The 6,800 km system links Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan. In Vietnam, the system hooks into the national network in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

It is designed to have a data transmission speed of 3.84 Tbyte/second.

The IACS is one of the largest ever cable systems in Vietnam, said EVN Telecom Deputy Director Vo Quang Lam, adding that with transitional stations in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan, it would allow EVN Telecom to cut costs and directly connect with the TGN-Pacific and some other major cable stations in the US and on other continents.
