The opening ceremony of the 2010 Festival for Ethnic Minority Pupils and Students was held in Hanoi on May 7 with the participation of 460 pupils and students, representing 37 ethnic groups from across the country.

The festival serves as a venue for young people from the northern, central, southern and Mekong Delta regions to meet and highlight their traditional cultures.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai stressed that this is an opportunity for ethnic minority youths to show their solidarity, talent and enthusiasm for national construction and international integration.

The three-day event includes many activities such as laying wreaths at the Monument to Martyrs, visiting Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and the Temple of Literature, camping, meetings, seminars, and folk games.

Sin Dai Thang, a student from the economic and technical school in the mountainous province of Dien Bien, said he is eager to learn, take part in the movements and contribute to the construction of the country and his homeland.
