Environment Ministry campaigns against plastic use to mark World Env

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has urged all sectors to reduce the use of plastic on the occasion of World Environment Day. The ministry has also called on state agencies to use less plastic and Styrofoam in their offices.

The Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, Wichan Simachaya, said the United Nations (UN) designated June 5th as World Environment Day in 1974 to promote people's relationship with nature. Efforts have been made to raise awareness about the impact of pollution on the environment and what can be done to improve the situation.

This year, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed among government agencies to reduce their use of plastic bags and Styrofoam in their offices.

The Permanent Secretary added that Thailand has installed a wastewater treatment system, a landfill system, and a waste incineration system. The country has also eliminated more accumulated garbage.
