Ensuring a happy Tet for poor people in the central region

VOV.VN - Special attention is being paid to secure a joyful Tet, Vietnam’s Lunar New Year Festival, for people in the central region, who suffered great losses in last year’s flooding.

Around US$180,000 has been channeled by the Quang Ngai provincial Fatherland Front to disadvantaged families and flood victims.

Nguyen Thi A of Ba Dong commune, one beneficiary, said "I’m really moved and happy to have received Tet gifts. It will make our Tet celebrations more joyous”.

Nguyen Vuong, Deputy Head of the Quang Ngai Ethnicity Committee, said that in addition to daily necessities provided by local authorities, poor people also received gifts donated by individuals.

We have asked authorities to mobilize all available resources to help people enjoy Tet. Gifts will be distributed to all needy people,” he said.

Building houses is the top priority in Binh Dinh province, which lost thousands of houses in the flooding. The couple of Tran Van Dong and Huynh Thi Anh, whose house was destroyed last month, are moving to a new settlement.

Anh said “I am glad to enjoy Tet in a new house, which is very comfortable. Our worry has largely gone”.

Authorities in Tuy Phuc district have provided flood victims with construction materials.

Vo Hong Tham, Vice Chairwoman of the Phuoc Hoa commune People’s Committee said "We are offering tents as temporary shelters for the people. They have now resettled and are now preparing  for Tet”.
