The annual meeting, entitled “Enhancing ASEAN defence cooperation in emerging security issues in the Southeast Asian region”, discussed issues relating to each ASEAN member and the entire bloc’s defence and security policies.
The participants also discussed solutions to tighten cooperation among ASEAN armies in effectively coping with sea security and humanitarian relief activities.

Deputy Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, who chairs the meeting, said that Vietnam wants to join other ASEAN member countries to put forward new initiatives to promote defence cooperation and build a political-security community in Southeast Asia for the sake of peace, friendship and development.
