Energy-saving campaign to be launched in response to Earth Hour 2026

VOV.VN - Vietnam is set to launch a nationwide campaign promoting energy efficiency and a green lifestyle in response to Earth Hour 2026, with a large-scale kickoff event expected to attract more than 2,000 participants, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

The official launching ceremony is scheduled to take place in Hanoi on March 21, alongside a public run aimed at raising awareness about energy saving. The programme will be held at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space and is designed to spread the message of efficient energy use and sustainable lifestyles across the community.

Amid the ongoing and complex conflict in the Middle East to pose risk to the global energy supply chain and challenges to energy security of many countries, the Government, the Prime Minister, and competent agencies have implemented numerous comprehensive and flexible solutions to ensure energy security. The effective usage of energy continues to be identified as one of the key solutions to mitigate supply risks, reduce production costs, and enhance the competitiveness of the economy.

The Prime Minister has assigned the MoIT to develop energy saving scenarios, raise public awareness and launch a movement to save energy and use green energy, reduce emissions; encourage energy transition and the development of clean energy transportation; strengthen fuel conservation in the transportation sector, and promote the use of public transportation.

At the same time, competent agencies are required to review the conditions for implementing a roadmap to transition to E10 biofuel, contributing to reducing the consumption of fossil fuels and diversifying energy sources.

Previously, on February 10, the MoIT sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and cities, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and related units regarding the launch of the nationwide campaign on energy saving.

Accordingly, Vietnamese people will turn off their lights for Earth Hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 28.

As part of the campaign, a large-scale public run will be organised on March 21, bringing together both professional and amateur runners from government agencies, businesses, social organisations, and the general public.

Following the in-person race, an online running challenge will take place nationwide from March 21 to April 11 via the 84RACE fitness app, aiming to promote energy efficiency and environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Participants are encouraged to adopt small but impactful daily actions, contributing to energy conservation while improving personal health.

In parallel, an online contest supporting the campaign will be hosted on tietkiemnangluong.com.vn. The competition will include three rounds running from March 21 to April 11, featuring multiple-choice questions designed to raise awareness about energy efficiency and Earth Hour.
