Ceremonies were held at detention camps across the country from August 29-30 to announce the State President’s decision to grant amnesty to 5,352 inmates who have performed well during their prison terms.

The Ministry of Public Security handed over certificates to 103 inmates eligible for parole at the Ngoc Ly detention camp in northern Bac Giang province on August 29.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Le The Tiem, Deputy Minister of Public Security praised the detention staff for their efforts to reform and educate the inmates and expressed hope that they will continue to do better, contributing to realising the Party and State’s humanitarian and lenient policy. He also asked the pardoned inmates to quickly stabilise their lives, integrate into the community and abide by the law.

On behalf of relatives of the paroled inmates, Dinh Chien Van from northern border Quang Ninh province thanked the Party and State for the humanitarian and lenient policy and pledged to help them become useful citizens.

Hundreds of people arrived in detention camp No1 of the Hanoi Police very early in the morning to pick up their relatives to be released this time. Inside the camp, the remaining paroled inmates hoped that August 29 would be the last day they had to wear prison uniforms. They looked happy when their names were read out.

The same day, the Tan Lap detention camp in the northern midland province of Phu Tho released 37 eligible inmates.
