The annual fourth Vietnam E-government Symposium took place at the International Convention Centre in Hanoi on December 13, focusing on information technology (IT) measures for developing an E-Government in Vietnam.

The symposium “E-Government - the bridge for Government, businesses and citizens” aims to provide assessment on practical issues of E-government (E-Gov) in Vietnam in order to create better public services and bring benefits for businesses, citizens and social organizations, by strengthening the E-government model and improving government management capacity.

According to the director of the National Institute of Post & Telematics Strategy under the Ministry of Post and Telematics, from 2006 Vietnam will promote the E-gov model by implementing State regime reform, process reform and public service reform.

The two-day event has drawn the participation of many policy-makers, IT experts and representatives from international organizations, aimed at specifying the current status of E-gov, as well as advantages and disadvantages in implementing this model. Proposals at this symposium will be a vital condition for building and working out the E-gov strategy in the near future.

On the occasson, an exhibition was also held to display the latest IT products and solutions for the E-gov application from leading firms inside and outside the country, such as SAP, APC, Lenovo, Microsoft, Avaya, Fortinet, FSS, Missoft, M.Tech, DTT Technology Group and Santak.

The symposium and exhibition were co-organized by the Hanoi Department of Post and Telematics and the International Data Group (IDG).
