Localities have been urged to make better preparations in order to control the possibility of future bird flu outbreaks, after two new cases were found earlier this month, in central Nghe An province.

At a meeting of the National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Prevention and Control on May 15, Bui Quang Anh, Head of the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), warned of the potential threat of the epidemic spreading from Nghe An to its adjacent provinces.

Mr Anh said some localities in the northern and central regions have not yet fully complied with MARD’s strict regulations on egg hatching and waterfowl breeding.
According to the Veterinary Department, more than 112 million fowls have been vaccinated in 60 localities so far.
