Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made this statement during his visit to the central province of Thua Thien Hue to attend a conference on implementing the Prime Minister’s directions and the Ministry of Education and Training’s action plan for renewing university education in the 2010-2012 period.
The university should consider enterprises as its strategic partners to improve the quality of education and training and sign agreements with them to send students there during their apprenticeship, he added.
The Deputy PM urged Hue University to create a standard curriculum and build a detailed roadmap for its development. He set a target for the teaching staff to achieve in the next five years. Half of Master degree holders should qualify for Doctorate by 2015, he said.
In a dialogue with the university’s students, Deputy PM Nhan stressed that to have a good job right after graduation, they should find a part time job during their 3rd year study. The students were also encouraged to concentrate on important soft skills including foreign languages and information technology.
The same day, Mr. Nhan worked with the local leaders. At the meeting, the local leaders briefed the Deputy PM on the province’s social-economic situation in 2009 and in the first quarter of 2010. They also proposed solutions to preserve and develop Hue’s ancient citadel, facilitate Hue Central Hospital and prepare for the Hue Festival 2010.
