Deputy PM discusses environmental agenda
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam delivered a key address to legislators today (July 7) at which he talked about furthering the Vietnam government’s leadership on the environment, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The goals of the Agenda are factually to effectively manage and use natural resources wisely and respond to climate change proactively while at the same time building a peaceful, prosperous, democratic, equitable, civilized and sustainable society.
Mr Dam highlighted the need to mobilize the broad participation of ministries, agencies, localities, press agencies, socio-political organizations, businesses, developmental partners and the population to successfully implement the Agenda.
The 2030 Agenda was approved at a United Nations summit in New York in September 2015.
At that time, the Vietnam government acknowledged its support and commitment to focusing all needed resources and manpower to successfully realize the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals.
The agenda sets out a vision for the fifteen-years leading up to 2030 for development with seventeen SDGs and successive actions, all of which are consistent with an elevated level of protection for the environment, which the government deems appropriate and in the best interest for the national development.
Over the past few years, the Vietnam government has actively organized innumerable activities to implement the Agenda, which actions have been embraced by the National Assembly and are in line with other governmental resolutions on socio-economic development and protection of the environment, Mr Dam noted.
The Vietnam national action plan features 115 goals, with its 15 SDGs for 2030 including terminating all forms of poverty; eradicating hunger, ensuring food security, improving nutrition and boosting sustainable agricultural development; ensuring people’s access to sustainable and reliable energy sources; ensuring sustainable, comprehensive and constant economic growth; creating jobs for all the people; and promoting global partnership for sustainable development.
The action plan, Mr Dam added, serves as a legal base for the government to implement SDGs and fulfil its commitments to the international community as well as to responsibly contribute to the global efforts aimed at sustainable development in line with sound policies to protect the environment and address climate change.
