Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has asked the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and relevant ministries and agencies to make better preparations to cope with other floods and storms after Typhoon Xangsane, which hit Vietnam early October.
At a session held in Hanoi on October 23 which reviewed the repairs done after Typhoon Xangsane, Deputy PM Hung instructed the Committee to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure the communication between the Committee's headquarters and the localities hit by the floods and storms, develop facilities for rescue operations, and improve information dissemination to the people to cope with floods and storms.
To overcome the aftermath of Typhoon Xangsane, he asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Finance Ministry and the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control to work out plans for State budget allocation for heavily-hit localities, and to tackle issues of transport, irrigation, education, environment and health care.
He urged the Committee to develop a plan to fight floods and storms from now until the end of the year, and to improve facilities for hydrometeorologic forecast centres. He also asked the Committee for Search and Rescue to increase facilities for rescue operations.
