Citizens and businesspeople in several southern cities and provinces find it much easier today to examine legislation and other documents issued by provincial authorities through a system of electronic official gazettes developed with US assistance.

In a meeting to review the effectiveness of a “Support for Trade Acceleration” sub-project on using software to develop an online database that contains official bulletins in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ben Tre and Khanh Hoa provinces, the delegates agreed that the system has significantly facilitated local people’s access to state-issued documents.

The websites receive a total of between 20,000 and 30,000 hits on average a day, according to the US International Assistance Agency (USAID), Vietnam ’s partner in the project.

The agency also used the review to announce the websites’ two millionth hit.
According to Pham Duc Thu, an official from the Government Office, it takes a lot of more time and money to deliver printed government memos and local official gazettes to every commune across the country.

The database on the official gazettes that is available online has helped to bring legal documents to local people in the most efficient and quickest way possible, he added.

The Official Gazette Centre said that the e-official gazettes help to streamline the processing of documents, create a systematic database for reference as well as saving money from the state budget.
USAID Chief Representative Frank Donovan added that the system would greatly help local and foreign businesses to make investment decisions in Vietnam.
