(VOV) - Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is promoting proper hand hygiene practices in its neonatal care unit.
Hand hygiene has been identified as the most important measure in preventing hospital-acquired infections.
Campaign organisers said infections of this type remain a problem in the neonatal care unit.
Experts used a 2 January ceremony to instruct staff, patients, and family members on hand-washing techniques.
Medical workers were also taught proper equipment cleaning.
Newborns Vietnam Trustee Chief Suzanna Lubran highlighted the general ignorance regarding hand hygiene’s importance.
Neonates are susceptible to infections while their immune systems are immature. Hand germs risk higher infant mortality.
Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital admitted 3,000 patients with bacterial contamination in 2013.
The campaign has been run at 16,000 clinics all over the world.
