(VOV) - The Central Highland province of Dak Lak has brought the blue-ear pig disease under control in Krong Ana district, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The disease first broke out in some households of ethnic groups in Quang Dien commune on May 25, and it then spread rapidly to 57 villages of 8 communes in Krong Ana district.
A total of 1,661 pigs had been infected with the disease, of which 543 were killed and culled.
Local veterinarians established checkpoints, banned households from selling infected pigs, sterilized affected farms and vaccinated all the pigs in the district.
Thanks to these measures, no more infections have been reported in Krong Ana district over the past 10 days.
The province has also directed Krong Ana district to increase monitoring to nip any recurrence of the disease in the bud.
