Da Nang police bust human trafficking ring involving minors
VOV.VN - Police in Da Nang city have dismantled a human trafficking ring linked to the exploitation of minors, arresting multiple suspects linked to karaoke establishments.
The Criminal Police Division of Da Nang City Police uncovered the operation after detecting signs that several karaoke venues were recruiting, managing and transferring female employees, raising concerns about potential human trafficking activities.
Investigators identified Nguyen Thi Diep, born in 1990, as a key figure managing nearly 20 female workers and frequently moving them between karaoke venues in central Vietnam. She was found to have connections with individuals in other localities engaged in transferring workers.
On May 1, police received information that a 13-year-old girl from Da Nang had been transferred and forced to work at a karaoke venue on Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai province. The victim had returned home on April 30.
Authorities quickly coordinated with the victim’s family to obtain a statement and launched a large-scale operation to track down those involved.
Despite difficulties due to the victim’s young age and unstable psychological condition, police were able to clarify the case within 12 hours and summoned 11 related individuals for questioning.
Initial findings showed that the victim had incurred debts while working at karaoke venues and was subsequently detained, assaulted and forced by a group led by Duong Minh Thanh, 32, to continue working. The group then collaborated with Diep to transfer the victim to another karaoke establishment on Ly Son Island to offset the debt.
The victim was taken to the island, coerced into signing debt documents and forced to work. She later managed to contact her family and was brought home.
Police identified six main suspects directly connected to the case, including Diep, Thanh and several others from Da Nang city and Quang Ngai province.
Authorities said Thanh and another suspect played roles in both illegal detention and trafficking of a minor, while others took part in trafficking activities or unlawful detention.
The Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang has issued emergency detention orders and arrest warrants for the suspects. Further investigations are underway.
