A project on accident and injury prevention was launched in central Da Nang city on December 28 by Counterpart International in Vietnam, a US non-governmental organisation, and the municipal Red Cross association.

The one-year project aims to train 50 motorbike taxi drivers from Lien Chieu district on safe driving skills and first aid treatment of road accident victims. They will also be provided with uniforms, helmets and medical equipment for emergency cases.

Volunteers who are involved in the project will be assigned to increase public awareness of measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and give first aid to accident victims.

The project will also target students in 10 district schools through lectures and extra-curricular activities.

Similar projects are being carried out in Hanoi and central Khanh Hoa province.
