Crossing river on raft for school year opening ceremony

VOV.VN - Living between 20 and 40km from school, around 150 teachers and pupils from Muong Nhe District, northern Dien Bien Province had to walk and cross a river on rafts to attend the opening ceremony of the school year 2017-2018 on the morning of September 5.

The stream running through Huoi Lu Hamlet, Pa My Village in Muong Nhe District.

Teacher Lo Van Viet says he has to row a raft to take pupils to school.

A raft made of 10 bamboo trees can carry six people at a time.

Teacher and pupils all have no life-jackets.

Teachers and pupils are present at the school very early.


Some pupils walk barefoot to school.

Pa My village consists of 10 remote hamlets, each has a school for kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 pupils.

Nearly 500 pupils attend the opening ceremony of the new school year at Pa My School. Most of them are from Dao and Mong ethnic minority groups.


Mong ethnic minority pupils join a performance to welcome the new school year.
