COVID-19: Nine more community cases linked to Hai Duong hotspot

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on February 4 confirmed an additional 9 cases of COVID-19 local transmission, all linked to Hai Duong coronavirus hotspot, raising the infection tally in the nation to 1,957.

As of 6 pm February 4, Vietnam has documented 1,957 positive COVID-19 cases, including 1,068 locally-transmitted ones, and 889 imported ones.

The number of local infections since a resurgence of the virus since January 27 has amounted to 375.

The same day, four more coronavirus patients were discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,465.

Regarding the pandemic situation in Hanoi, Chu Ngoc Anh, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, has ordered a halt to all festive activities and mass gathering events in public places and stadiums amid a resurgence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

He has therefore requested that all municipal departments, sectors, agencies, and district-level People’s Committees regard COVID-19 prevention and control measures as the most urgent task.
In addition, inter-sectoral forces have been urged to take drastic actions aimed at combating the outbreak and performing the year’s socio-economic tasks.

The chairman has called for stronger messaging to be put out to persuade locals not to leave their homes if unnecessary, to don face masks in public places, and not gather in large crowds.

He also underlined the need to minimise movement, especially during the period around the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, amid growing travel demand, whilst carrying out anti-pandemic measures on public transport.

The municipal leader has ordered an increase in the examination and strict settlement of people illegally entering the nation. This is along with clamping down on the spreading of fake news, evading health declaration procedures, providing false information, or violating anti-COVID-19 regulations.

This comes after a meeting of the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on February 3, during which Chu Xuan Dung, vice chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said the capital will expand COVID-19 testing for F2 cases. This will also include those in quarantine and high-risk areas in an effort to prevent the further spread of the pandemic.

Dung asked localities and units to continue tracing and testing, not only F1 contacts, but also F2 and F3 cases.

Hanoi has to date detected 22 cases of community transmission since January 27, all linked to hotspots in Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province and Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh province.
