The proposal, made by Da Nang authorities, was approved by the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control at a meeting in Hanoi on July 24.

The decision comes after a 57-year-old man of Da Nang had three times tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The test needs to be re-confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene Epidemiology.

Explaining the reason, a representative of the Da Nang leadership said the city wants to focus on epidemic prevention and control before reopening its skies for international flights.

Da Nang International Airport has been used for the past weeks to receive flights repatriating Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad due to the COVID-10 pandemic and bringing foreign specialists to Vietnam.
