COVID-19 infections rise again with over 9,600 detected in single day

VOV.VN - The nation documented an additional 9,650 COVID-19 cases across 59 localities to take the national tally up to 1,048,878, the Ministry of Health said in its November 16 update.

In terms of the figure, the number of daily cases grew by more than 1,000 compared to the previous day.

Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest number of infections with 1,183, followed by the neighbouring provinces of Dong Nai with 683, and Tien Giang with 671.

Furthermore, Hanoi registered a total of 158 new cases which were detected both among the community and in areas under lockdown.

Nationwide the daily tally shows as many as 4,370 cases were detected within the local community.

A further 87 COVID-19 casualties were also reported over the past 24 hours, thereby raising the national COVID-19 death toll to 23,270, accounting for 2.2% of the total number of cases.

Moreover, a total of 6,481 recoveries were reported on November 16, thereby taking the total number of recoveries to 870,997.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 4,101 patients nationwide are currently in a serious condition, with 115 requiring invasive ventilation and 11 on life support (ECMO).

As of November 15 the country had injected over 1.089 million doses of vaccines, with more than 36 million people now being fully inoculated.

Amid complicated developments relating to COVID-19, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long has moved to underline the need to accelerate the vaccination process and implementation of the 5K message, a move which represents the best way to protect the outcomes of the country’s fight against the pandemic.

The Health Ministry has therefore asked localities to remain vigilant against the pandemic and increase COVID-19 vaccine coverage.

All citizens must strictly follow the Health Ministry’s 5K message as, together with the COVID-19 vaccination, it will help to reduce the number of infections and deaths.
