COVID-19: Daily infections fall to 1,600, no deaths recorded

VOV.VN - Daily coronavirus infections continued to dive in Vietnam on May 15 as 1,594 fresh cases were confirmed while no deaths were recorded nationwide.

The May 15 figure saw a decrease of 301 cases compared to the previous day, according to data released by the Ministry of Health.

All the new infections were documented locally, with 1,029 cases diagnosed in the community, said the Ministry.

None of the localities recorded more than 100 cases each nationwide, except for Hanoi capital that registered 461 cases. The capital is followed by Quang Ninh (88), Nghe An (80), Yen Bai (80), and Tuyen Quang (73),.

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest and busiest metropolis in Vietnam, topped localities in the south, reporting 25 cases. It was followed by Binh Duong (24), Binh Thuan (4), Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Kien Giang and Dong Thap (3) each.

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Vinh Phuc (-51), Nghe An (-35), and Lai Chau (-30).

Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Bac Ninh (+57), Da Nang (+19), and Binh Phuoc (+15).

On average 2,493 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 5,448 patients recovering from the disease, and no more deaths.

At present, 338 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation and two patients are receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated form of therapy that is used to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

As of 6pm on May 15, Vietnam has confirmed close to 10.7 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, more than 9.3 million patients have recovered, and 43,065 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

Nearly 217 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
