COVID-19: Daily infections fall to 11-month record low of 890

VOV.VN - Vietnam reported 890 coronavirus infections in 39 cities and provinces across the country during the past 24 hours, a record low in the past 11 months, the Ministry of Health said in its coronavirus update on May 29.

The May 29 figure represents a decrease of 224 cases compared to the previous day.

All the cases were registered in the country, with 617 cases diagnosed in the community.

None of the localities logged more than 100 cases each, except for Hanoi capital that announced 282 cases.

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Phu Tho (-36), Lao Cai (-32), and Vinh Phuc (-30).

Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Da Nang (+18), Hai Phong (+3), and Hoa Binh (+2).

On average 1,195 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 8,439 patients recovering from the disease, and no more deaths.

At present, 183 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation and six patients are receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated form of therapy that is used to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

As of May 19, Vietnam has confirmed more than 10.7 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, nearly 9.5 million patients have recovered, and 43,078 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

More than 220 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
