COSTI-90: ASEAN ramps up resource mobilisation to turn STI cooperation into action
VOV.VN - The 21st Meeting of the Board of Advisers to the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (BAC-21) took place in Da Nang on October 14, as part of the 90th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI-90), hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
Delegates examined mechanisms for mobilising resources, implementing priority initiatives and measuring progress under the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI) for 2026–2035.
As an advisory body to COSTI, BAC supports the strategic direction and promotion of regional cooperation in science, technology and innovation. Its key areas of advice include developing and implementing APASTI; managing and utilising the ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Fund (ASTIF); mobilising resources from partners; and promoting public-private partnerships to translate scientific and technological advances into socio-economic benefits.
Delegates also reviewed progress on the 2026 Priority Economic Deliverables and preparations for the Annual Milestone Deliverables for 2027. These discussions will inform BAC’s advice and recommendations to COSTI, with initiatives focusing on space cooperation, artificial intelligence in healthcare and technology transfer.
The outcomes of BAC-21 and its recommendations will be reported to the COSTI-90 plenary session for consideration and decision. They are expected to help shape regional STI priorities and strengthen cooperation in the coming period.
The discussions also provide a basis for better coordination of resources and greater use of the strengths of ASEAN member states and partners, helping turn cooperation commitments into tangible results that support sustainable development and enhance the region’s competitiveness.
The COSTI-90 meeting brings together representatives from ASEAN member states and partners to advance regional cooperation in science, technology and innovation (STI). It seeks to implement the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation for 2026–2035, with an emphasis on mobilising resources, advancing priority initiatives and translating regional commitments into practical outcomes.
