Security officials from Vietnam and Laos have gathered in central Lao province of Savannakhet for a conference to review cooperation measures for reinforcing security regulations along the two countries’ common border.

The 6th conference on border security between Vietnam and Laos was held on January 26-27 with the participation of Kongthong Phongvichith, Head of the General Department for Security under the Lao Ministry of Public Security, and Maj. Gen. Trinh Luong Huy, Acting Director of the General Department for Security under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.


At the conference, the two sides provided feedback about the security situation in their respective countries, particularly concerning the fight against drug criminals, smugglers, as well as the illegal immigration and resettlement along the Vietnam-Laos border.


Both countries also reviewed the implementation of the minutes of the 5th conference on the level of information exchange, and cooperation measures for ensuring safety and order along the Vietnam-Laos borders as well as between border gates, districts and provinces on both sides of the frontiers.


Before concluding their working session, the two parties discussed future orientations and measures for maintaining safe borders in the coming years.
