They also briefed each other on information about socio-economic development and their experience in developing organisational structures.

Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council, said the visit by the delegation of people-elected deputies from Champasak provided a good opportunity for the two parties to exchange briefings on recent developments of their People’s Councils.

Since early this year, the two localities have organised a wide range of events to mark the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year, Tam said.

In recent years, they have promoted comprehensive cooperative ties in all fields, especially in culture, social affairs and education. HCM City youth have helped Champasak to build houses and have provided free medical treatment and medicines.

HCM City has so far invested in 37 projects worth more than US$217 million in the neighbouring province.
