Colombia presents 25 monkeypod trees to Hanoi

VOV.VN - The Embassy of Colombia in Vietnam on November 19 presented 25 monkeypod trees to the capital city of Hanoi, marking a special gesture to symbolise the enduring and resilient friendship between the two countries.

The tree-planting is to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - 2025) and the 9th anniversary of the historic Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC forces (2016–2025).

These monkeypod trees were planted at Hoa Binh Park, one of Hanoi’s most significant and iconic green spaces.

This environmental initiative is not only a contribution to the city's sustainable development but also a symbolic act representing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Colombia and Vietnam.

The monkeypod trees, native to South America, were chosen to introduce a piece of Colombia’s natural heritage and cultural identity to Vietnam. Known for their adaptability and environmental benefits, the monkeypod trees symbolise vitality, hope, and sustainable development, echoing Colombia’s ongoing efforts to build peace following the Peace Agreement.

Speaking at the planting ceremony, Camila María Polo Flórez, the Colombian Ambassador to Vietnam, noted that planting the monkeypod trees was more than just an environmental act.

It’s about planting roots that convey a message of peace, nature, and friendship that transcends oceans, she said.

For his part, Dao Duy Phong, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Construction, shared that 2025 will be a pivotal year for Hanoi’s plan to plant 500,000 urban trees between 2021 and 2025. This initiative is a key part of the city’s broader efforts to enhance its urban greenery system and create a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful Hanoi by 2030.
